Types of Artificial Intelligence (Based on Capabilities)

On the Bases of Capabilities, Artificial Intelligence may be divided into two categories as :-
1. Weak AI or Narrow AI
2. Strong AI or Broad AI

1. Weak AI : When an Artificial Intelligence works around specific task only in closed domain, then this form of AI is called weak AI. These AI devices are designed to perform specific tasks. It is also known as Narrow AI.
Such Weak AI systems are driver-less cars, smart home system, virtual assistant(Alexa, Siri, Cortona, voice Google), Shopia (Household Robot), playing chess etc.
Few Weak or Narrow AI systems bundling them into a Broad or stronger AI.
"Weak AI focuses on one task and cannot perform beyond its limitations (common in our daily lives)"


2. Strong AI : When an Artificial Intelligence works in a vast scope of activities with generalised human cognitive abilities, then this form of AI is called Strong AI. These AI devices are able to find a solution without human intervention. It is also known as Broad AI.
Such Strong AI systems are Robots.
Other examples:- If a machine might hear “good morning” and start to associate that with the coffee maker turning on.
"Strong AI can understand and learn any intellectual task that a human being can (researchers are striving to reach strong AI)"
