Types of Intelligence

The Psychologist Howard Gardener describes nine types of intelligence based on skills as discussed below:

Types of Intelligence
    Intrapersonal Intelligence:

  • Self-awareness skills
  • It is the ability to understand yourself - about your feelings, your strengths, your weaknesses, your goals etc. and to use such knowledge in planning and directing one's life.
    For example: Psychologists, Spiritual Leaders, Philosophers etc.
  • Like Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa had the capacity to know themselves.

  • Spatial Intelligence:

  • Visualising the World Skills
  • It is the ability to perceive the visual world and the relationship of one object to another.
    For example: Architects, Designers, Engineers, painter,Sculptors etc.
  • Naturalistic Intelligence:
    Naturalist Intelligence
  • Environmental Skills
  • It is the ability to understand living things and care for nature.
    For example: Gardeners, Veterinary doctors, Zookeepers etc.

  • Musical Intelligence:
    Musical Intelligence
  • Musical Skills
  • It is the ability to compose, perform and appreciate the music patterns.
    For example: Singers, Music Composers, Musicians, Vocalists, Instrument players etc.
  • Like Ravi Shankar, A.R. Rehman, Ustad Zakir Hussain are some great Indians to possess Musicial Intelligence.

  • Logical-Mathematical Intelligence:

  • Numerical and Logical skills
  • It is the ability to analyze problems logically, making hypotheses and solving them.
    For example: Pascal, Newton was born as mathematical people.
  • Existential Intelligence:
    Existential Intelligence
  • Religious and Spiritual Skills
  • It is the ability to tackle the questions like why we live and die. They have intuition (अंतर्ज्ञान) and thought to understand the people and the world around us. They have the sensitivity and capacity to tackle deep questions about human existence, such as the meaning of life, why we die, and how did we get here.
    India is a land of Sufis and saints who possess existential intelligence.
    For example: Gautam Buddha has the ability to understand about life and death.

  • It is the ability to understand and interact with the people around you. It involves to sense the feelings and motives of others.
    For example: Politicians, salesperson, Consultants etc.

  • Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence:

  • It is the ability to co-ordinate your mind with your body. It involves to create something through motor skills.
    For example: Dancers, Players etc.
  • Linguistic Intelligence:

  • Language Processing Skills
  • It is the ability to understand, speak and write. It involves to find the right words to express their feelings, emotions or whatever they wants to express through speech or written.
    For example: Poet, Narrators, Writers etc.
