Defination : An Operating System works as an interface or mediator between a user and a computer components (Hardwares & Softwares).
or
An operating system is a program that acts as an interface between the user and the computer hardware and controls the execution of all kinds of programs.
For example:- MS Windows, DOS (Disk Operating System), Mac OS (Macintosh Operating System), Android, LINUX, UNIX etc.

Booting Process

Defination : In a Computer system, Booting is the process of starting a computer.
or
When we switch ON the CPU, it takes some time to load the essential programs into the memory and this process in known as Booting Process.
Booting is of two types :-
1. Cold booting: When the computer is started after having been switched off, this process is known as Cold Booting.
2. Warm booting: When the operating system alone is restarted after a system crash or freeze, this process is known as Warm Booting.
